Description

Maschinen-Mensch is a German independent game studio of former AAA developers that left the mainstream industry to experiment with new forms of generative storytelling and create innovative games that aim at unattended niches in gaming.

History

Early history

Maschinen-Mensch was founded in April 2014 by the two game developers Riad Djemili and Johannes Kristmann, combining 15 years of experience of working in professional AAA game productions. Among other games they worked on the multi-award winning game “Spec Ops: The Line” by YAGER Development.

The Curious Expedition

Maschinen-Mensch is currently in the final phase of their debut title, The Curious Expedition, a game portraying 19th century expeditions. Despite being still in Early Access, The Curious Expedition has already been a commercial success for the small team and allowed them to pay back the 50.000 EUR funding grant given by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. In December 2015 The Curious Expedition was honored with the German Developer Award “Best Independent Game”.

Upcoming

Maschinen-Mensch has recently announced their next upcoming title, The Curious Case, a game about generative crime stories in the Roaring Twenties of Berlin. Maschinen-Mensch again received a funding grant of 80.000 EUR from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg for the producton of The Curious Case.
